Le président iranien Ebrahim Raïssi et son Ministre des Affaires étrangères sont morts dans un accident d’hélicoptère dans le Nord-Ouest de l’Iran, a annoncé lundi le gouvernement de ce pays, poids lourd du Moyen-Orient.
Mort à l’âge de 63 ans, le décès de Raïssi ouvre une période d’incertitude politique en Iran, au moment où la région est secouée par la guerre dans la bande de Gaza entre Israël et le Hamas palestinien, un allié de la République islamique.
Elu en 2021, l’homme était considéré comme l’un des favoris pour succéder au Guide suprême, l’ayatollah Ali Khamenei, âgé de 85 ans.
« Le président du peuple iranien, travailleur et infatigable, […] a sacrifié sa vie pour la nation », a indiqué le gouvernement dans son communiqué officiel.
